IN(TERNET)CEPTION: The Dream Is Real

I was absent for the first week of class, although as per my request I was placed in the seminar group of my dreams: Social Media. Our focus is to bring three figures who have extensive knowledge and experience within some field that pertains to and uses social media as a primary form of business. From our initial talks, we aim to get a range of guests to showcase the varying careers and job opportunities out there for people interested in working in and around social media. As I was absent for the initial meeting, I was brought up to speed (quite relevantly) via our social media group chats and discussions.

Our first big decision as a group was to come up with a catchy title for our seminar so we could begin the process of promotion and organisation of the event. We tossed around a few ideas for a name, trying to keep within the overarching theme of ‘Epic Adventure’. After input from several members, we decided to put it to a vote, in which the majority of the group chose the name: “In(ternet)ception: The Dream Is Real.” This name was inspired by the 2010 film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, and we discussed ways of relating our seminar to different levels of a dream and creating ideas within our audience’s minds. This also gave us a starting point for all our promotional material, which would need to be created sooner than any other group as we were the first seminar of the series, scheduled for Friday Week 5.
