Laners

Laners

So I was wrong, The National are not playing at Laneway next year, however there are some stellar bands on the bill. Laneway is an amazing day festival held down in Footscray that offers great scenery and usually a pretty great crowd. I thought id give some tips for who to see next year!

The must see 5 at St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival 2014…

1. Kurt Vile: he will most likely be playing albums  from his fifth album Wakin On A Pretty Daze is a 69-minute opus, whose introspective lyrics and rambling melodies sound already-classic.

2. Jamie xx: Jamie has been one of the most in-demand producers in the world, contributing to mega-hits by the likes of Drake and Alicia Keys as well as reworkings for Radiohead.

3. King Krule: Archy Marshall is King Krule, one of the year’s most exciting artists in a crowded field. Having variously been compared to Joe Strummer, Edwyn Collins and Morrissey, King Krule actually sounds like nothing but himself.

4: Earl Sweatshirt: he is the youngest member of the Odd Future collective and widely regarded as the notorious group’s most talented rapper, is coming. His 2010 debut mixtape Earl, released when he was just 16, raised heartbeats and expectations and marked the arrival of a genuine hip hop star.

5: Youth Lagoon: this man churns out music that’s sometimes awkward, sometimes challenging, distinctively honest and overwhelmingly good.
