Italian Masterpieces & Copyright Law

I finally saw the Italian Masterpieces exhibition at the NGV before it ended in August!

I have no photos of the day thanks to conservation laws but I guess if it weren’t for art conservation these masterpieces from the Royal Spanish Court (some dated to have been completed from as far back as the early 16th century and have never left Spain!) wouldn’t be able to be viewed today! And if they were, they wouldn’t be in as good a condition and displayed for an even shorter period…

Good thing is with art copyright I believe the law is something like, the life of the artist +150 years before the work can be reused or reproduced etc so here is one of my favourite artworks I saw, ‘Justice and Piece’ by Giaquinto (1703-1765)
It was suitably displayed in the last room on a blue wall and took up most of the wall, this photo does not do it justice at all.
