Week5- Success and Unsuccess

This task proved difficult as I found myself questioning if I was even 100% sure of who I really am? I have a central theme of the water/beach running throughout my self portrait as I find myself very connected to the ocean; all my life I have lived by the sea and my fondest memories involve living and breathing salty air. In saying this I have attempted to incorporate sounds and visuals that reflect this part of myself; crashing waves, chirping birds, tinkering wind chimes and splashing water. The waves symbolize the ongoing motion, the constant ups and downs of life whilst the birds represent the frequent sounds of nature that mean there never is a moment of silence, my world is always talking. I chose the wind chimes as I felt their delicate sound reflected the peaceful feeling that comes with being in the water, letting the current carry you; taking the weight/stress out of life for just a moment. Having only some experience with film I found the editing process was the least successful in terms of using the one minute the best I could. I was unsure of how to connect the different mediums therefore was drawn to ‘telling a story’ by including a song. With advice from Robbie I removed the song as the self-portrait became more like a music video. Next time I will try to work towards  moving away from the traditional beginning, middle and end, and also trialling ways of mixing audio more efficiently. On the other hand,  I found a certain section of the piece (33 seconds onward) worked really well; it flowed nicely and I thought the repetition of the sun twirling was an effective way of transitioning one shot into the next.
