Edit Trial … A full days footage condensed into 60 seconds

In the last week of completing this project, I wanted to make sure I was practicing my videography skills.

For my birthday I went out for the day and my partner filmed bits of the day. I wanted to see how I could edit a lot of footage of an entire day down to a minute.

In these last few days I have felt I haven’t fully given enough work in terms of a final project so I wanted to use these little videos to show that I was still learning and trialling with editing techniques. all the footage was handheld so I trialled with warp stabiliser on the original footage, this warped really strangely and become a bit distorted. Perhaps more learning to be done there, and how nesting works but I definitely would consider using manual stabilisers in shots as the overall smooth effect I think works and flows nicer for these types of videos. None the less handheld still gives a super personal feel and I also do like that.

I paired the video with music which I found for free online called bensound “betterdays” which really sets the vibe.

I think my skills in efficient editing have definitely improved I whipped this up in an hour and a half total. I think I have learnt how to prioritise important footage and how to position it in order to tell a story. This was more of a little fun side project to edit together the day into a short clip but I think overall it captures what happened in the day. Obviously its nothing cinematic, its just s step by step visual of a day.

One thing I have tried to push a bit more this semester is colour correction, with this video I edited the really basic components such as exposure, highlights, shadow etc. I would love to push this over my final year of this course because when you can really understand colour correction I think it really works in your favour. Despite not quite getting the colour right and cohesive in this video I liked trialling with what worked and didn’t work through my edit process.
