a little cinematic inspiration (Including Lubeski)

This little shot I came across today and I got really excited about it so I had to share it. I think it is so beautifully positioned and intimate. The tightness of the shot creates a beautiful depth of field where we are forced to look closely at the sugar cube absorbing the tea. The tight shot also really enhances the texture which feel so real which I love, this is also a similar style to the clips below. I also like how its not directly centred, i think the negative blurred space again really pushed us to focus on the intimacy of the cube and relish in that small moment.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE THESE SHOTS !

I don’t really know where to begin but Emmanuel Lubezki is such an inspiration to me. I think his shots are so incredibly thought out and intricate. Every angle is unusual to what I am used to seeing and I think it is beyond refreshing and exciting to watch whatever he creates. I don’t often follow specific director or cinematographers but Lubezki’s style is so unique and independent that I can’t help but fall in love with it.

In this tree of life final scene, around 7min 35 seconds there is a tracking shot forward as the woman walks away for the camera along the sand. It moves with the actor in a low angle which i think really places you amongst the motion, it appears his style often incorporates the camera moving with the motion or finding a very realistic rhythm or flow. The angles very rarely stick to a still shot at eye level he sues low angles and high angles and movement to really capture a different perspective. The shots are so close they feel intimate and I think its so extraordinary that he creates a vision and relays this to his viewers. Handheld is also often used and despite it not being complete fluid and stabilised it still feels fluid, like a complete motion.

If I were to redo this studio I would definitely take these shots as a far greater inspiration and trial them, exploring how to create these sort of angles and movements of simple actions. I will definitely push to do this in my own time.

I also think another connection I have with these beautiful images is his connection to nature and the realness of his shots. As discussed in this above clip, the style of his work is realistic the skin tone, the tone of the overall shot is realistic and not drawn out which really pushes audiences to feel present which I really love.

Basically I love the shots, I love this style and I love love love everything about what he creates.
