blog #95: day seven

LAST DAY OF DAILY BLOGGING!

Ok, I thought I’d go out with a bang and document my use of something that I really do use a whole lot… SNAPCHAT!

Snapchat, truly to me, epitomises millennial social media.

Put simply, “let’s make a social media app where users can put a picture on into the universe, literally any picture; and then what we’ll do is it’ll only be online for 10 seconds or less, or we’ll do something where they can put it online for 24 hours…”

Seriously? That’s what Snapchat is! I love it, I’m addicted to checking Snapchat stories, which are the 24 hours pictures or videos that my friends put up. I love stalking what people are doing, I love getting an update on everything that is going on in my friends’ lives and usually they’ll put up some funny content. It takes my mind off whatever I’m doing and is really a great way to keep updated on everything that is going on. Snapchat also has great unique and cool features that I love to use, these include GeoTags, filters and BitMoji… I’ll give a run down on what I’m talking about and why I love them!

GeoTags:

  • GeoTags are a filter to go over a picture or video that you publish onto Snapchat, essentially it’s your location in words in a cool font that let’s people know where you are… for example:

  • It’s a fun way when you’re in a new place to let people know that you’re there and also to get the vibe of the place (for example Brunswick in VIC has a very hipster and funky looking GeoTag whereas Toorak in VIC has a very polished and classy GeoTag).

Filters:

  • Putting a crazy flower crown on your head? Giving yourself a glitter beard? Vomiting up a rainbow? All these things may sound unrealistic but, with Snapchat, nothing is off limits. All you need to do is tap your face on a selfie, and Snapchat will recognise a facial structure and then it’s fair game, choose whatever you want and share it with friends.

  • I love it because it’s so unique, fun and a great way to have a laugh with friends. It was the first platform to have filters like this and now everyone’s doing it.

BitMoji

  • Arguably my most favourite feature to come from Snapchat is BitMoji – honestly the greatest and most unique tidbit I’ve ever seen from an online media platform. Essentially, you can make a cartoon version of yourself and then BitMoji will generate 100 different scenario images that you may be in.

  • It’s so much fun and I really do love it!

So there we go, finally finished my daily blogging. Enjoyable but bloody tiring and a great way to judge how much online media I use (maybe I should cut back a little!).
