Imitating Wright: coverage

This is my first edit of the footage I took during my shoot on Monday. The focus of this was to get lots of coverage of the scene, since this is something Wright does a lot of, and as of yet I have not added things like sound effects or transitions. I think I was successful in editing together the multiple shots fluidly, however some are out of focus – obviously not good – and perhaps it would have been better to pick either hand held or mounted shots and not combine the two, since it’s noticeable when in some of the shots there’s wobble. I filmed this on the EX-3, despite thinking originally that I would shoot on DLSR, and I had Mimo carry my phone with the music going in her pocket so that she would walk in time with the beat. This is another thing Wright does that I was attempting to imitate, timing edits and actions to music, however I could explore this further by having other actions timed to the music (eg. the drinking at the bar in The World’s End). Overall, this is very loosely inspired by Wright in the sense that I haven’t taken it much further yet, this was more an exercise in coverage, which I think is the first step to filming in his style.
