South Amerikate update 6.

dddddgI love this photo. It’s definitely one of the better photos for my trip and it was all luck. To get us used to visual storytelling our instructors sent us to a nearby park in Quito to try and capture an image that strongly communicates a story. An image is worth a thousand words type thing. While this image possibly doesn’t actually communicate a story it’s a lovely shot.

I had decided to climb up on the tall slide to get an aerial view shot of the entire crew right before we left. I was up there ready to head down when a little head popped out from the ladder and this little cheeky monkey climbed up. She wasn’t shy and smiled at my limited Spanish greeting. She seemed happy at the attention. She went forward and slid down the slide. I filmed her descent and at the bottom she sat and looked back up. Her mother was there and I called down in my stilted Spanish, “Un photo, per favore”. Her mother said something to the girl and she turned around and smiled up at me.

Sure there are a few things I would fix if I could take it again. I would centre the curve at the bottom and it possibly could’ve been a tiny bit sharper. But in some ways it’s all part of the spontaneity of the shot.
