I’ve got a better taste than yours

In this weekly readings, I really like the reading ‘The Long Tail’. I found it is really interesting that ‘most of us want more than just hits.’ Yes, when I watch more and more films and listen to more music. I always think those are too mainstream, I want something different. Then I listen and watch some alternatives, explore more about who are not famous or I don’t know. Then I know more about them, and ask my friends, ‘Have you ever seen this film?/ listened to this singer?’ Possibly they would say ‘No’, and that’s my time! haha.

‘I have got a better taste than yours.’ Oops, I wouldn’t say that but I would recommend those I have listened and let them think I’m an expert or outstanding. Actually, I don’t think alternatives are better than the hits, but I believe that we can explore more to enrich my mind if I am not just keep looking at the mainstream things.

Treasure, that is what you are

Let’s talk music. Bruno Mars is my favorite singer all time. Actually he is already a musician. I started to like him since his first album ‘Doo-wops and Hooligans’, of course there are some singles really hit worldwide such as ‘Just the Way You Are’, ‘The Lazy Song’, ‘Grenade’. But my favorite Bruno’s song currently is ‘Treasure’, this is a new song (not really new) in his the latest album ‘Unorthodox Jukebox’. When I listened to it at the first time, I thought it was a very old song in 80’s, but hold on, yea, it’s a new song. In his latest album, you can find all the songs are so 80’s, you might think you are becoming old now. But the most impressive thing is the music video of ‘Treasure’. Wow! 4:3 ratio, no HD option?! And it really looks like playing a VHS tape. How ‘serious’ is that!

Okay, I would shut up and enjoy the song, and the video.

P.S. Finally I know how to embed the youtube video on the blog, woohoo.

How to get Instagram on the sidebar?

I have seen some people would like to use IFTTT to post their instagram photos, I think it is a good way to do it, but I don’t really like it because before posting photos, I need to set up plenty of things on IFTTT, it is really time consuming. And now I have another way to post the Instagram photos on the blog. Actually it is posting, but it is a widget.

This is called SnapWidget. It is really easy to use, just go to the website, click ‘Get Started’, then insert your Instagram’s username, and customize your widget settings. After this, click ‘Get Widget’. You will see the code of the widget, don’t hesitate, copy that code.

Okay, go back to your blog and click Dashboard –> Appearance –> Widgets, than drag the Text widget to the sidebar (you may try other widgets, I have just tried this and it works), then paste the code on the text widget, DONE!

Easy man, cheers.

Where should I store my ideas?

In this weekly reading, I was really impressed by the text about the ways or methods to record the contents. Like writing and photography and printing, also TV and recording….

It inspires me to ask myself, where should I store my ideas? I don’t know… Because I don’t like writing at all, blogging is fine haha. I have thought about it and I found the answer, that’s film. Basically my family and friends know that I like films and want to be a film director, and for sure, I’m still on the pathway, even I don’t have any own feature films, but I am really confident that making films and enjoy it very much.

Unlecture #4

This week’s lecture is a very inspiring lecture to me. I really like the point that Adrain said we are learning how to make money trough using network. I was impressed that we maybe not going to buy or provide contents but to communicate the contents that users contribute to myself. True that, Like using Facebook, Youtube or even mediafactory, they don’t have any contents but they give us platforms to contribute our contents, the sad thing is, they make money but I don’t.

But now there is new term (not so new) is called youtuber, they use Youtube to release their clips and try to make money, we watch their clips for free but they will get sponsors or paid by some companies, then they make money as well! It sounds like simple but I think it would be hard to be the successful one. So, now, I needa think big, I want to be the next youtuber, instagramer, viner.

PAC-MANs Bokeh

Too tired to see the night view of my hometown, Hong Kong.
Just wanna make it better.

Photography is not my life yet, but will be very soon. I swear I didn’t photoshop the photo, but I just ‘Bokeh’ it. What is this? How did I make it? Come on, just GOOGLE it, be networked! haha!

Kidding, I don’t like to talk too much about photography here, it sounds like an idiot, but here’s a link and it is easy to make it.

Have fun!

Unlecture #3

It was another amazing lecture since last week. I think Adrian likes to lecture us in different ways in every lecture. This lecture he did not ask us to ask questions and there were some slides on the screen. And, for sure, I did not take any note in the lecture, actually I couldn’t. The lecture was so chill, like a stand up show and Adrian gave us an ad lib lecture. However, I think the lecture was great. As I remember Adrian always said ‘Many people asked me this kind of questions, but I didn’t answer them, but we can talk about this.’ It sounds more like an interaction with us rather than just teach us something. I was really impressed by this because media or network are just like this, we cannot avoid to interact with other people even you don’t know them. Like posting a status update on Facebook, my friends can ‘like’ and comment on my update, even the status doesn’t concern them. So this is a great example that lecturers should not just teach us what they want to talk about but understand what we want to know and wonder.

Also, I think it is also a great idea to let the tutors lecture us in the lecture. Jasmine and Elliot gave us a short lecture to talk about the readings (shame, I haven’t done yet). And Elliot talked about the differences between studying bachelor and TAFE, I think it was very useful to make my mind clear to set goals for the future. I am looking forward to having the lecture next week because I really enjoyed in it. To be honest, I hate taking 5 pages notes in a lecture and I just copy the words on the slides but never listen to the lecture HAHA!

What’s next? I hope it’s Ironman.

Sci-fi film is always a hot genre in these decades, and I admit that I am a big fan of sic-fi films too. The reading says iPad is inspired by 2001: A Space Odyssey, I was really impressed! How could I miss out even I have seen the film many times? However, I wasn’t impressed by the iPad, but it really happens in the real world! I used to think the robots and hi-tech devices in sci-fi films are always a gimmick and a dream, but now, obviously, it can become true! I salute to the sic-fi designers that they always have great visions to make some crazy ideas and bring them into the films.

I do have a little faith on making an Ironman in the real world, and of course I don’t hope it would be used for war but rescuing people and  to convince people. I am really looking forward to seeing Ironman becomes to be true and I think it just time matters, but I can’t wait!

Unlecture #2

It was a very interesting lecture I have ever attended, the way to be taught as very different from the others. In the lecture, there was no slide or clips, but all verbalized. Then, the lecturer did not really prepare at all but passed the question sheet through to let us asked the questions.

I was very impressed that the copyright issues are very important in the network that I have never thought of that. Maybe posting a link up to my own blog is infringing copyrights. And the lecture had pretty much time to cover this topic, I think it is the best part of the lecture to remind me to avoid being sued because of copyright issues.
