Today we ran through editing with the Creative Writing students. Editing is quite new for them so it was interesting running through the processes. It was good to watch someone else working because you pick up what works and what doesn’t quickly. You also learn your own mistakes by editing your footage, which is a lesson that some of the Creative Writing student learnt today. When it all is put together you quickly realise what is missing and any discontinuous movements that don’t match up.

I re-colour graded the film I edited on Monday, The Racket. I didn’t think that the colour matched up in the previous version. This new version is a little better, however I am still not happy with the colour balance, this one seems a little too orange. The sound is also problematic, as there was some background noise which is hard to filter out in Jackson’s dialogue. I really enjoyed this exercise, and I hope to get better as I progress.

One thing I have noticed is that the cameras we used to shoot the footage seems to not capture good quality images as some footage came out grainy. The available adjustments are minimal, and there is only an exposure (+) and (-) button as you cannot adjust many elements manually, this may have affected the quality of the final images.
