Interview Preparation

  • Know your interviewee: touch base with them, find out what will make them comfortable, what is interesting about them, what prompts them to speak, how you think they might respond.
  • Know your end goal: what do you hope to learn, what content do you hope to obtain, what story are you hoping to tell and where does this interview fit into your overall piece, is it central? driving? supporting? an expert opinion?
  • Scripting questions: Have core questions, possible follow-up questions, memorised if time permits, leave room for play, be flexible and adaptable.
