From E to S to K

Okay, so its been really hard trying to find someone who is willing to be a part of this brief who has the time and devotion.

Emmanwella is a no go SHE IS TERRIBLE AT KEEPING IN CONTACT. so all those culturally aesthetic ideas I had are a bust, but thats okay. these things happen.

I then decided to ask another model from my year 12 project, Steph, but she didn’t know if she would have the time because of her uni schedule either.

SOOOO, I finally managed to find a model who has the devotion, enthusiasm and time to help me. She, like the other two, was also a model for my year 12 media project. Its going to be really awesome working with her because we are really close friends which will make the whole process less intense also.

“two times today “

I dont really have much to say about this lectorial, it was interesting but it was the second time I had attended a librarian telling us how to use the library search on the RMIT website. Similar to the first time I heard it, I sort of struggled to retain everything being said as I’m not great in the IT department and at times repel everything internet related. But fortunately I have a great group of peers I can direct my scholarly search questions to 😉

Filming outside – first time with media equipment

Filming outside today was interesting. I’m used to being behind the camera and not in front. Even though the acting was simple it was daunting because I’m not used to being set up and watched.

I found myself giving a lot of direction even when I wasn’t holding the camera. This was a great exercise that revealed a bit more about me and my capabilities and what I’m comfortable with doing.

unfortuntely I don’t know how to remove seperate video recordings from the main folder of videos from the movie camera (thats something i’ll have to learn whoops), SO i can’t attach an example but in one of the shots I’m using a hand-held technique to give that idea of the actors actually BEING filmed (as opposed to the camera operator being unnoticed by the actors).

I have never used a voice recorder before. I was impressed by the quality and ability of the microphone. Serena and I stayed in the classroom to record silence (as everyone else left to find places outside and around the building) and it was able to pick up small sounds made by Brian’s typing from the other side of the room.

EMMANWELLA

I’ve been thinking about who to do my third assignment on and I had this great idea to do this girl Emmanwella who has helped me with a media assignment for year 12. She is of African descent and I thought it would be a really good idea, not just in the interest of my assignment but for myself too, to ask her questions about how she maintains that cultural identity whilst living in Australia. I have some really interesting aesthetic cultural ideas to include in my video and very excited to organise a shooting plan with her.

Attached is a photo I took of her for my media project in year 12 (2014)11335850_10200651550767140_267272047_n

Debriefing on the third assignment

Today we basically talked about the expectations of our third assessment. It was slightly confronting as I had no idea who to do and felt like i needed to do someone who has touched the live of thousands or the inventor of new technologies or someone who went through something that had changed there own life. The examples shown in class were really helpful and provided a good vantage point to start.

I can’t think of anyone as of yet to shoot my video on. Although the captivating aspect should rely a great deal within the editing, I still feel as if having a great life story would act as a back up ensuring my audience don’t get bored and lose interest. So I better get on with brainstorming possible candidates ….

meanings, messages and aesthetics

The presentation of brief number two occurred in today’s practical/workshop and it was slightly nerve racking. I wasn’t sure how the other students, or the ‘audience’, were going to consume my video. usually when it comes to my art, I’m very passive in terms of “I understand it so it must make sense” both in terms of a meaning/message and aesthetically, and its not until I put myself in the audience’s position do I realise all the other ways my creations can be interpreted and received. However, people seemed to like it, I felt better being able to explain it. Because art should be a natural process, I feel less inclined or obligated to explain what I create, but because this is not self-initiated and had to follow requirements and adhere to restrictions its a littler harder to stay quite and let the audience do the interpreting.

Representations in the media

The comic this week got me thinking about the media and representations of other things contrasted against personal experience. For example pop stars. I’m used to seeing pop stars and other celebrities on TV and in magazines or in movies. The representation of them we believe is true because wee see it and we read it and we have faith that what we are seeing and reading is true. Thats why its such a change to see them in person. When I went to P!nk’s concert, I was up close to the front and was shocked at how different she seemed to look compared to photos and videos I’ve seen. So basically it all got me thinking about that idea of faith and to what extent we should trust that faith. Because as true as it can be in terms of a photographS or words of text, it will never truly be a truthful or faithful representation.

Comical Media

The comic I thought was very interesting. The way in which it talked about how humans want closure and need closure and I find it extremely fascinating how a lot of things rely on non-religious faith, For example it said how just because you’ve never been to a country and seen it with your own eyes, doesn’t mean it does not exist. And we believe it exist because we have faith.

The lecture’s activity today was fun but not so much interesting. I’m finding that a lot of the things we talk about in lectures are covering what was learnt in year 12. I’ve notice I’m finding it difficult to know what is important to note, and what can be left out.
