Project Brief 1: Statement of Intent

From this studio, I would like to get a better sense of what immersion is, why it happens and how to make my project more immersive. Immersion grabs me because, in my opinion, it is the ultimate goal of what making any kind of media. Whether that is a painting, video, song or video game. If you have immersed the audience the work is doing its job. You could have the most amazing sounds or the best graphics but if you don’t have immersion your audience will not sick around or if they do they won’t remember the experience as well.

I would like to continue getting better at my videography skills such as camera framing and movement, editing and colour correction. I also would like to gain more skills in motion graphics and in photography.  This will hopefully allow me to create more immersive pieces that I can add to my portfolio.

Something that immersed me very well was the broadcast of the NFL, NFC Divisional Round game between the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys. Through a series of events I have become a big fan of American Football and this was one of the best games I have ever seen. The story behind the game was very interesting. Dallas had a quarterback (the most important offensive position on the field) playing his first season and Green Bay had arguably the greatest quarterback ever, that had lead his team on a 7 game win steak to that point. The immersion was achieved because from the time in the game I started watching (late in the third quarter), the play went back an forth between the two teams but Dallas was making a very large comeback and the game came down to the final second when Green Bay scored to win the game and continue on in the playoffs.

I declare that in submitting all work for this assessment I have read, understood and agree to the content and expectations of the assessment declaration.
