Beginning

My first post is undoubtedly long overdue, but this does not mean I have not reflected at all on what I have heard so far, because I have… a lot. In fact, a little too much, and since the first un-lecture I have been so very excited to begin blogging and developing a place where I can share a wealth of my thoughts and accomplishments. Because creating is better than consuming, something I have been reminded of  in my short time in this subject.

I was particularly excited by the idea of giving us skills rather than a database in our heads of knowledge, because yes, Google is a thing. It reminded me of something I saw a few years ago, and I still keep going back to it, ‘An Open Letter to Educators’ by a clever young man named Dan Brown, who pointed out how ridiculous the process of memorizing facts then testing the memory of said facts is, and…… you know what, in true ‘networked media’ fashion, I’m not going to repeat information that has already been shared before, so ill just leave it here:

Being that this is actually the second week of semester, I have attended two un-lectures so far. The second one was equally as engaging, perhaps not in the ‘inspirational’ sense that I got from the first one, but because it answered questions that were asked by students, a great idea because chances are, a lot of people have the same questions but just don’t ask them. I learned about the legal side of what I cannot post on my blog and what to expect in tutorials, things that are very useful but I probably would not have asked them otherwise because the questions of ‘what to post’ and ‘what are our tutorials like’ seem so simple.

Although I am thoroughly excited, I must admit  am a little nervous even while writing this text post, being that I have never had a blog before and am unsure if what I am writing is decent. I guess I just have to keep posting and trust myself enough to figure it out as I go.
