Buried- Ruby, Evelyn, Jack& Bobo

“Buried” is the title of our final work, but that wasn’t the name in the beginning. We tried many words to match our theme-“attachment”, something like “death”, “memory”,but it doesn’t sound good. We decided to use “Buried”, the aim is not to tell the audience our main idea directly, but to express in an implicit way how we regulate our emotions when we encounter the death of a loved one. Yes, the feelings for their loved ones is buried in the bottom of their heart, and always remember them.

Our job is to explore the taboo subject of death, how do we identify with it, how do we deal with it, how do we get over it. We decided to use the interview method to record the most authentic aspects of the interviewees in an informal style, which may sound cruel, but it is often the most penetrating, because everyone has different experience and views on death.

In the week 8, our team member Ruby wrote down some questions that could be raised in the interview (as shown in the picture below). These questions were quite direct. We wanted to know how people felt about death and the death of their loved ones. And then, starting in the week 9, we interviewed seven different people and record their voices as footage.

Then, we started the production of video. Ruby cooperated with her roommate to shoot these frames at home, in which the fake blood made by herself was used as a shock visual source, and the broken mirror symbolized the memory of the deceased family members, which was not complete, but still worth our treasure. Evelyn is responsible for the production of audio in the team, after she studied the video footage of Ruby and choose the most appropriate background music in the audio clip gimmick is also very good, used multiple audio tracks overlap effect the same time there is more than one person’s voice, with the feeling in video, we can bring the best experience to the audience.
