Media 1 Lectorial 1

They say that first impressions never die, and my first impression of the Media 1 lectorial happened to be awesome. I mean, if hearing the calming melodies of The National playing as you sit and wait for the lecture to begin isn’t one of the best first-lecture impressions you’ve heard of, well I’ll be damned!
I was super interested in the discussion/topic of todays lecture- the relationship between media & education and the cognitive models that have risen due to the prevalence of the many forms of media becoming a part of every day for students across the developed world.
I remember the days of prep, when whiteboards and colouring in sheets were all the rage, but nowadays, even the earliest of years in the educational life of a student are filled with interactive whiteboards, iPads- the works! No wonder this new trend of hyper-attention students is growing at such a rapid rate- technology is not only something that is used in ‘free-time’, but is now used to assist and enhance the educational experiences of the students of today.

I don’t believe there has ever been a time in my schooling years where I could have qualified as a deep-attention individual- well, maybe in tests and my year 12 exams, but if I had had my way, I would have been pumping the alternative hits of today through my little apple headphones and eating whilst reflecting on the actions of Mabo in my year 12 english exam. I have always been a multi-tasker, constantly switching my attention from task to task, and oh boy, do I have little tolerance for boredom! But what is strange is that when I dance, listen to my music or do an activity that I thoroughly enjoy, I become a deep-attention individual-focussing on the individual task with pretty much no distractions whatsoever.
I do believe that it depends on the context as to whether or not individuals are deep attention or hyper attention. But on a whole, if i had to fit myself into a style, I’d say that I am probably more hyper- sorry school work, you will always be accompanied with music or noise!

As a media student, I will continue to develop into a hyper individual. I guess I am part of the growing, multi-tasking, easily bored, generation of hyper-attention individuals- and I am quietly proud.

On a course-overview note- I am looking so forward to exploring in depth the various aspects of media and I cannot wait to start developing my skills and taking my love for media to a whole new level.

I’ll sign off with one of my favourite songs from The National’s most recent album, Trouble Will Find MeThis Is The Last Time
