editing is frustrating.

Editing is very frustrating. I have all of there great ideas in my head but they never seem to look right when I try to put them into practice. After fumbling around with Final Cut Pro for a while I’ve decided to revert back to basics, jumping the gun and paying a huge $18.99 for iMovie, as for some reason I can’t figure out, my MacBook Pro is sans iMovie. In class today we went through some basic transitions available for use.

o Jump cut: Two shots of the same subject from camera positions that vary slightly. Used to cut out content
o Contrast cut: Used to strategically juxtapose two subjects
o Graphic matching: Joins two pieces of film that contain two similarly shaped objects in similar positions
o Dissolve: Fades out of one shot and into the other
o Fade from Black: Used a lot in film trailers
o Wipe: Obvious. Not used often
o L Cut: Sound starts appearing in previous shot

Let’s hope iMovie works a lot smoother for me
