MEDIA SELF PORTRAIT

Throughout the process of collecting media I tried to document things from my point of view. I figured that if this wasn’t going to be standard self portrait where you see my face, I should show you the way I view my world. My identity also lies in the way I see things and in what I deem important to me.

I think I was able to successfully capture aspects of who I am through these different media but I feel like I haven’t captured who I am entirely. Looking on what I have done, it focuses a lot on my student life being in the city and at RMIT. I could have captured more of who I am outside of university. The most abstract way I was able to represent myself was through the ~50 words we needed to include. I found these words from a personal journal I write in.

Next time I would definitely think even deeper and try to incorporate my feelings into these photos and videos. A task like this encourages an abstract way of representing yourself so I would focus less on my surroundings and more on my internal world.

MEDIA I COLLECTED:

Up to 50 words:

“I don’t know what I expected but I know it wasn’t this.”
“I miss it but I can’t go back to it. The only thing I can do is make sure my future is even greater.”

6 photos:

I mostly took photos of things that are personally significant to me. A self portrait usually shows people what you look like on the outside. These photos show people who I am internally. However I also took photos of things that are linked to me such as my glasses. I literally cannot function without them.

The photo of the moon was something I took without thinking that I could use it in this project. Space is a big interest of mine so I decided to include it.

3 videos:

With the videos I tried to document things that I see and experience often.

3 audio files:

Similar to the way I approached the videos, I recorded audio of things that I hear on a daily basis.
