Me, myself and my selfie

Social networks are a rose-tinted glass window into our lives. Food on Instagram looks so much yummier than in real life, our friends are always having fun and never annoying, and clothes look way better in flat lay than they do on our bodies.

Above all, we look so much better in our selfies.

The rise and rise of Instagram means that selfies have become the norm and no one bats an eyelid when yet another close up face shot pops up on our news feed.

As an amateur selfie guru, I’m going to explain some of the trends I’ve noticed amongst my friends and their selfies.

The selfie we love to hate. These are a daily hourly occurrence on our news feeds and are characterised by a close up of a (commonly female) face, often complete with bright lipstick and doe eyes.
