This is a raw take I shot on my IPhone of Penelope while I was recording the sound on the Zoom Mic. While we were recording sound I also experimented with footage as well in preparation for a shoot with the EX3 in a bigger location. This location, Penelope’s apartment was very dark, it was night when I was there. I used a lamp and positioned it on the kitchen bench just above her head, which in real life looked very bright, but obviously on the IPhone it looks a lot darker. This is why the camera will be so great because I wont have to have anything lit more than I think suits her mood and style of playing. I can’t adjust the exposure on the IPhone it needs to be lit enough for the phone to read. But this is a good example of how beautifully her expression comes through just on a clumsy take like this. She is totally in her own world and isn’t obviously aware of the camera in a way that distracts us from entering into her world with the music.
I just wanted to include this clip to point out how wonderful Penelope is as a subject, I didn’t direct her or tell her what to do, just by being herself we get so much information about who this girl is and what her relationship is with her music.
