A World Of Difference

In this article Lederer and Brownlow provide and discuss the statistics that arise when the Entertainment and Media companies are analysed on the struggles they may face when trying to keep up with the modern economy. They pinpoint 5 key areas where the data shows the biggest shifts: Demography, Consumption, Competition, Business Models and Geography.

I found the Demographic analysis to be the more obvious and applicable to even everyday life where they explained that is the younger demographic who are better able to adopt new media platforms and methods of media in both the entertainment and practical sides of things. In turn it being easier to market towards the older demographic but essentially it will be the younger people that keep E & M going due to their propensity to engage in all forms of media use and spending.

I also found it interesting when they examined western society in comparison to other civilisations. I think there is a lot more to be uncovered here and it’s a study that could really benefit the media industries. In studying and understanding how other civilisations respond and interact with media it may become easier to control and predict where the online, entertainment, music, gaming etc, may head in the future.

I think all in all this article provided and good insight into what to expect in the future and offers a few ideas into how to predict and control the future of entertainment and media.
