Learning Graph

(sorry for the bad quality, I still don’t know how to scan from a printer)

Our exercise for the last lecture of Media 1 was to draw a line graph that reflected on our experience of the past semester. Each line explained the progress of something different;

technical skills – orange

When this program first started, my technical skills were nothing but mediocre. As we first began to learn Premiere Pro, I struggled at first on gaining an understanding on what the heck I was doing, but the more I used it the easier it became. I felt as though I really got the hang of Premiere during project brief 3, however I know that there is still so much for me to learn, especially when it comes to effects.

When project brief 4 began, I was slightly overwhelmed with using Adobe Audition because it was a whole different program. I was able to pick it up and use it quickly, but even by the end of the semester I was still fiddling around with it, and felt as though there were quicker routes that I could use.

Using the camera’s I found very enjoyable, hence why I felt why technical skills improved during project brief 3, although I am still far from being anywhere near a professional. I definitely still need to work on experimenting with different framing and angles, especially since filming is something that is intriguing me for the studios.

The microphones for project brief 4 were self explanatory when it came to using them, so I found no technical difficulty in that department.

conceptual skills – purple

I began this program, in all honesty, not knowing what ‘media’ actually was and what we would be learning. The readings of each lecture definitely helped me in understanding all the aspects that fall under media. There was a staged where I was confused for a bit, I can’t really remember as to why I was confused but I remember feeling that way and thinking of deferring, hence the stoop in the line graph (although I shouldn’t have done it the drastic). I then, as the weeks continued, felt as though I was gaining a stronger and stronger understanding. I am still yet to learn a lot more, which definitely excites me.

ways of working – green

Comparing project brief 2, 3 and 4, I discovered that I like working by myself, but not completely by myself where the focus is just on me. I think I like working with my own personal ideas, but having other people with me to express it – hence the enjoyment I experienced with project brief 3 and interviewing. Although, in saying that, I may just feel that way because I interviewed a close friend who was willing to do anything. Working in groups aren’t my favourite because I feel like everyone works at different paces, but I know I am going to have to get used to that for the next couple of years.

I felt as though I understood each project briefs, but the ways I interpreted them in my work (project brief’s 3 and 4) could’ve been better, as both my grades were distinctions and I aim for high distinctions.

In workshops, I really like discussions but it’s a shame since not many people want to discuss. I also like taking notes of whatever Hannah says as she always explains things in a thorough yet understandable way.

The feedback hats (I completely forgot what they are called) are extremely helpful, especially when presenting rough cuts. It is daunting for me to present anything to anyone, but once the feedback is given it is definitely always a sense of reassurance that I feel, as all I do is doubt myself which is why the yellow hat is my favourite.

sense of media practice – pink

My passion for media practice began at a good start, but as I began to compare myself to everyone’s work whenever we had the mini festivals and even during the presentation I felt as though that my work and my portrayal of my concepts weren’t that creative, hence why the pink like doesn’t seem to move that much.

I can admit that my skill is probably a 5.5/10 as of right now, as this semester was my very first time in using Adobe in general, and filming ‘professionally’.

I don’t think my work contributed to the world, society or culture very much – except project brief 4 as I feel as though that was pretty much the task.

I hope that whatever studio I get to be in allows me to gain confidence and strengthen my passion.
