First Show // Reflections

May 1st

Whilst I was immensely nervous, frazzled and paranoid I would swear on live radio; I believe our first show ran well, alongside the random outbursts of nervous laughter and somewhat cliche undertones of young leftist ideals; we sounded exactly as expected, RMIT university students making their debut on live radio.

The show begun abruptly; as Bradley (partly out of nerves and partly to allow extra talking minutes should we need) Cut the opener short by around 75 seconds, allowing us both the freedom and anxiousness of what to do with unallocated time.

We dove straight into a song and after I back announced the artist I began to ease into the process, allowing myself to enjoy the experience as though I was recording a demo and disassociating from the thoughts that real humans could tune in at any point in time.

Our first interview with Ladies of Leisure co founder Savannah Anand-Sobti was my personal highlight of the show. I think our content was accessible, interesting and diverse. We engaged well and the conversation flowed incredibly naturally.

We then moved into a pre recorded piece which I thoroughly enjoyed however a few minor technical difficulties meant there was a slight lag in audio.

Our second feature interview with Anthony from Monash Clayton Juggling and Fire club was lighthearted and different. Personally, I felt that the interview was slightly disengaging and moving forward I would have cut the interview short as I felt it was an incredibly niche topic which does not appeal to every facet of listener. However; content aside, I think the dynamic between presenter and subject was strong and there were definitely high points.

I think Rebecca and I had a strong dynamic and bounced off each other well; in the future I hope to engage with the interviewees more and push for more discussion time, rather than constantly undertaking the formalities such as back and forward introducing songs, interviews, updated time and station identification.
