Location and Budget

Costumes

Only one casual outfits needed for four female interviewees are required. As I also want them to how different is their life between Instagram and real life.

Make-up

Required for four female interviewee Yanni, Jayne, Abigail and Mandy . Natural and bright, with rosy cheeks, likeable and approachable, natural hairstyles. Relaxed, laid back and likeable.

Set Design/ Budget

Most of the sets are exterior and as my budget is practically nil, I don’t have much ability to manipulate the exterior surroundings. In this production, basically I don’t have any expenses in the entire production process. Because of this I have to be strategic in choosing locations to shoot each of film scenes. The interviews are supposed to be free and voluntary, I am happy to hear that the interviewees are pleasure to have interviews.

Locations

There will be six:

EXT. A cafe- Simple, familiar. Shown at one stage busy, warm and vibrant.

Screen Shot 2015-09-17 at 8.30.17 PM

Reflection about my favourite movie

snow

lord

I am a fans of The lord of the Ring and I am going to do a short review about it. First of all, the first frame opens with a Long Shot. We are shown snow-capped mountains and a sunrise with the sun shining on the snow, which establishes where the action will take place. The first movement the camera makes is a crane shot looking from above down onto the mountains, showing the beauty of the mountains but also prepares the viewer for the unforgiving territory which the harsh action will take place in. The next shot is a panning shot of the mountains where the camera moves backwards and forward. This shows the great might of the mountains where they grow in power and intensity. There is a contrast of light from the sun and the bright blue sky to the shadows over the mountains. This is High lighting to give a realistic effect with natural light. The mountains still look beautiful, still and quiet but the non-diagetic sound of the wind is heard in the background under the eerie orchestral music, which is still to be heard. The camera retreats in a panning shot, which suddenly gets faster, this makes the viewer unable to anticipate what is coming to the screen and creates an uneasy feeling. This gives the effect of the camera falling away, which is a symbol of what Gandalf will experience later when he falls down the mine.

Schedule and Production Plan

Schedule

And now we have contacted one of the interviewees to interview during the next weekend and trying to finish all the interviews within these two weeks. Basically I will start the shooting and editing in week 9 and 10 and finish the rough cut over the week. Latest by week 11, I will work on the fine cut to finish the whole production. Between those weeks I will meet up at least once with Robin to discuss the project, keep contact with interviewees and do anything to speed up the progress.

Production Plan

In this production, I have done the research about the particular issues like how Instagram affect to people nowadays, background of interviewees and their addiction to Instagram to make me easier setting the questions for the interviews. Then, I will do the storyboarding before shooting to make sure there are different visual elements in the program such as camera sizes and angles, title and credits. On the shooting days I will have different roles on the sets, there will be divided to an interviewer, cameraman etc. (Will find someone wilingto help if possible) So I will bring a camera, tripod and microphone and both have one extra for back up. I will do editing after finish shooting all the footages and finish the rough cut before week 11 to get advices by tutor and finish the fine cut at the end of week 12.

Idea for making documentary

11892183_10207006474615806_4081375754183101243_n

When Robin asked us about the idea of making a documentary in class, this idea was the first that came in to my mind. We, Malaysian have this peaceful protest called The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections or Bersih (meaning clean in Malay) is a coalition of non-govermental organisations(NGOs) which seeks to reform the current electoral system in Malaysia to ensure free, clean and fair elections.

First of all I will address the issue by using WWWWH theory.

What – Corruption of the country president

Why – Citizen suffering

Where – Federation square, also 38countries across the world )

When – 29 and 30 August

How – Interview protester, shoot protest situation, people emotional and reaction towards this protest

However, I will no interview the Melbourne Bersih organiser in the public, instead I prefer to do the interview inside a peaceful place and the background colour must be as simple as possible. For example, a white board.

Presentation film making idea (Final)

Idea for film presentation

Instagram allows people to take photos with their mobile device and then, with the tap of a finger, crop, add coloured filters, and post the image online. They wait for their followers to judge the picture—to “like” the photo.

With Instagram, the needs to deal with long-houred phone calls to maintain relationships with people are gone. Its “news feed” (picture that shared) feature allows “friends” to consume news content from other people and stay in touch through the content being shared.

To many people, Instagram is like a stage, and their followers are their audiences. Their followers monitor the stuff they share on social media, which forces them to build this image of a ‘perfect person’ living in a good live.

As with all the past social networking sites, the potential for abuse is always there. But if utilized constructively, it can assist in making our lives easier, more productive and stay more connected with each other. Most importantly, Instagram provides the feasibility of instantaneously passing on a ‘friend’s’ thoughts and feelings without going through the nuances associated with face-to-face contact.

So… The questions are… what are followers on Instagram? Why, if the relationships on it are seemingly shallow and self-serving, is Instagram gaining popularity and publicity? The video I showed in class earlier is to show everyone how is it like our lives on Instagram VS our actual real life, and the relationship between the people and the Internet community

Method :

  1. Get cast
  2. Interview people by asking them what do they think about Instagram brings to their life? Is it good or bad. (Will prepare more questions)
  3. Do voice over in the short film

These shots will be as listed as below,

  1. Full shot – The subject takes up the full frame
  2. Mid shot and Medium close up (Similar) – Shows some part of the subject in detail
  3. Close up – Certain subject takes the full frame
  4. Two shot – A shot of two people
  5. Noddy shot – A shot that refer actor listening and reacting to the subject
  6. Weather shot – The subject of weather. For example, sun rise.

Reflection towards sounds II

Melbourne_museum_exterior_panorama

My soundscape exercise outside the class start with birds singing. Parents with crying boy walking pass. Then, they decided to listen the speaker, which give a brief explanation about water. Then decided to take photo before they move on to the next gallery section.

I decided to visit the Melbourne’s Museum because one of my first impressions of it was that it is like entering into a very complex area with lots of different compartments and different accessories. The compound is located on top of a cliff with dramatic views, there is a private dock, there are endless secret tunnels and passageways and furthermore there is endless amounts of things that would excite anyone from a kid to an old man.

With regards to the actual gallery, there are 4 sections, while my main focus was on the forest gallery section. The meaning of my soundscape is to feel the Mother Nature because sometimes it’s nice to get away from the city and enjoy nature. Also, the people, the traffic, the crime – these are just some reasons why we might feel stressed out while living in a city.

The forest gallery has many different types of living plants and birds, I am able to recorded the sounds of water on the landscape, the role of plate tectonics in the evolution of plant species and the speaker of the exhibits are professionally done and brief enough to keep people’s attention.

After the end of the trip, when I looked back at my trip to the museum, I realized that I had learnt so much more about recording sounds. The museum sounds itself may not be many, however the materials that it contains clearly are special and not what we can hear everyday in the city.

Reflection towards sounds

Sounds.

construction-laws-1

There are many of sounds surrounding us everyday, one of the new sounds I’ve discovered in my daily are the construction sound. There are road and building construction going on in the city everyday lately. For me, construction sound is considering one of the nosiest sounds in the world. The sound can describe as choking noise, gagging , guttural , throttling sound, also it has no rhythm it is very irritating, most of the people cannot accept the sound.

The duration of high noise levels may play a significant role in how a noise impact is perceived and/or mitigated. If the levels are of a brief nature, possibly only occurring once or twice during the project, the perceived impact could be quite different than that associated with a constant noise source. Similarly, any related noise mitigation techniques employed could be substantially different in terms of type and/or duration of application.
