Communication is key

So far, the preparation for our serial web series has been pretty smooth sailing. In a general sense, all of our class members are on the same wave length, and we are all being open to each others ideas, and are willing to listen to what everyone has to input. The only hurdle that I have personally come across, is the communication between us, the media students, and the students from the creative writing class.

When working collaboratively, the only way to have full success, is strong communication, which at this point, I don’t think we have. Most communication, thus far has been through our respected teachers, which has worked to an extent. We have been successful in sharing videos, and ideas via google drive with the other class, but have had little chance to really discuss face-to-face with the students, obviously apart from our first initial classes.

I think that an important step that we can take, and probably should have taken earlier on, is to simply exchange contact details with the creative writing students. Even the possibility of setting up a facebook page, where we can openly, and easily exchange ideas, concerns, and general questions with one another, outside of our designated class time. This, for me at least would give me piece of mind, that we are all able to share what we are thinking/planning, without the stress of waiting in between class. It would also take a lot of stress off our teachers (hint hint). My final reason that I think it would be good for us to open up more lines of communications, would give us more independence and control over the pre-production stage, and not to mention how valuable it will be to have second and third opinions on almost everything that we plan to create.

ps here’s a funny video I found, not really about media, but shows the comedic side to failed communication: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Ox5LhIJSBE
