Reaper

For this semester, as I previously mentioned in an earlier post, the only software I had used for radio editing purposes was garageband, so finding a new software to use was like searching for a needle in a haystack. I have no idea which is easiest for first timers like myself, which one requires some knowledge, and the $$ crisis also comes in to play- yes, I am pulling the poor uni student card.

So after doing a bit of a google, and after Kyla mentioned some that she recommends, Reaper was the best option. It gives me 60 days free with no limitations, which was the main selling point, and it took no time at all to download.
I was also relieved when others in class were also newbies to the software, so we are able to work through any issues together!

So far, it has been simple enough to use. I learnt how to

– start a new track
– select the input device so I could listen to the recordings through the headphones
– import a track
– cut a track (simple click ‘S’)
– and work with the levels.

Questions I still have: *this list will grow no doubt
– when playing back over your track, the line which follows through with the time automatically goes back to the start of the track when I click pause- this makes it very difficult when editing

FIXED: Click ENTER instead of the space bar

– how to edit each tracks individual noise levels and is there a way to reduce/ cancel out background noise?

–  shortcuts

– what all the little emoticons mean!
