Workshop Week 11

In this workshop Liam among other things discussed the PB4 with the class and then gave us a brief introduction into ‘Adobe Audition’ and everyone favourite free audio software ‘Audacity’. I really paid attention to what Liam was saying about audition/audacity because the hours spent on Lynda learning how to use Premiere Pro still haunt me.

I cheekily walked in 10 minutes late into this workshop and hence missed the opening 5 minutes of the audio piece we were listening to at the time. After a second listen our class had a discussion and the general consensus was that it was ‘boring’ and ‘confusing’. I on the other hand really enjoyed the piece and was fascinated by the creativity and the non-linear storyline being presented through exploration of the genre. The classes’ response was sadly very similar to my group’s response to my idea for PB4, which was also a non-linear story that loosely referenced our chosen topic of hyper attention. This disappointed me greatly.

As a group we then went out and recorded some vox pop interviews (mainly Arnel displaying his hidden talent for impressions) and came back into class to edit our audio using one of the two programs.

When making the audio sequence on Audition I used very simple fades for transitions and then instinctively started tampering with the effects options, which are just as fun to use in Audition as they are in Premiere.

I found this workshop very informative and useful but albeit sad because of everyone rejection for such interesting and creative methods of non-linear story telling through an incredibly hard genre.

Unfortunately upon going home and looking at the sound we recorded I seemed to be missing a lot of the audio I thought we recorded or we simply didn’t record enough.

Hence in my 20 or so second video I explored the effects and fade features on Audtition and tampered with multiple types of fades, sound levels and effects.
