During this workshop, we were assigned our third Niki group where my group consists of Tim, Dana, Mardy and myself. The topic we decided on was Spotify, which is an online Podcast of musics. Below is a rough idea of how we would go about our research.

Niki topic : SPOTIFY ( Podcast exploring pros and cons of spotify)

Speculative approach :

-Podcast exploring pros and cons of spotify

-2 DJs introducing spotify

how the network works + how it connects people + music/facebook + fans/foes + how everyone is raving about spotify right now

– Artist comes in, laments about how spotify has affected his music career (Unfair incomes even though it’s a legal music platform)

– He starts singing a song about it
(why he hates it, and how it has affected artists like him)

This week’s reading about Culture and Technology by Andrew Murphy and John Potts.  According to Murphy and Potts, these two circumscribe a field incorporating many interests and disciplines. It is a dynamic field, reflected in both in the rapid changes in technology themselves, and in the growing range of relevant theoretical approaches. In academic terms, disciplines such as media studies, cultural studies and sociology have conducted inquiry into the complex relationship between culture and technology. This reading was relatively short, very general, but it lays out some important general ideas and terms.
