Story Lab [part 18]: Platforming

Controlling the scope of this project is something that we definitely have to keep focusing on. With only a few weeks to go, I think it’s really important to ensure that we don’t become flooded with content to produce and platforms to manage.

We recently decided that it could be worthwhile reducing The Barlow Enquiry’s social media presence for the sake of consistency and efficiency. We were planning to release information and evidence over 4 digital platforms: Blog, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram – however we’ve decided to cut our plans for Instagram and instead focus more on properly utilising Facebook and Twitter’s functionality.

I think if we were running the production over a longer period of time Instagram would have certainly come in use. To me it seems like a platform that welcomes more occasional and scrutinised posting. In our current situationĀ I don’t think we’d have enough time to effectively make use of Instagram.

The current plan forĀ Facebook is to use it as a platform through which audience members may interact with each other AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, with the character of Atticus Barlow. Players will be able to message ‘Atticus’ directly and ask questions, request too see evidence, etc.

Twitter on the other hand will be used more to develop Atticus’ personality and backstory. Hopefully this will allow us to tell ‘his’ story, and give audiences another aspect of The Barlow Enquiry to think about. As his investigations move forward, Atticus can share his personal thoughts and daily experiences through Twitter – adding another layer to his character.
