Coping With Covid

The outbreak of Coronavirus has caused many individuals during isolation to feel afraid, worried, anxious and overwhelmed, negatively impacting mental health.

Therefore, for our final media work we decided to create a Facebook page that suggested a number of activities people can undertake in order to cope with the negative effects of isolation. Throughout the project we explored a number of different forms of posts that would also work on a multitude of social media platforms. We included informational statuses, images and videos. The images and statuses included a range of information on how to help yourself and others cope during isolation. these videos ranged from short inspirational videos to time lapses of activities to tutorials and are all short form and easy to share. The videos included activities, online games to play with friends and more.

We selected Facebook for our social media platform as a result of its analytics, discoverability and algorithm as well as the platforms ability to reach our target audience of people aged between 18-25. Facebook content is also relies on user- based distribution which is something we took advantage of, encouraging users to tag friends in comment sections and share the posts we created.

As a group, we created a timeline guide that we followed in order to maintain consistency in our posts. We learnt how to stick to a schedule of posts, planning our filming and content around this guide. We planned who was in control of what in regards to filming, editing and posting videos and statuses and learnt how to work well as a team.

We also learnt that we could only measure the effectiveness in terms on the interactions we receive on the posts such as likes, comments, views and shares, however noticed that certain forms of video received more interactions than others. Included in this post is an example of the videos that we included on the platform, this particular colouring video received over 170 views.

Ultimately, we believe our final project was successful in its aims in providing people with motivation, useful resources and inspiration for activities to keep them busy and help them cope with the negative mental effects that the coronavirus lockdown has on society.
