HOW MY PARENTS LOVED ME

A Documentary by Jessica Lee

Supervising Producer Rohan Spong

All throughout her life, Claire*, a young Korean-Australian, wondered about that fundamental question about her parents’ love. One night, during dinner, Claire has a big argument with her parents about not being Korean enough. Upset, she runs to her room, shuts the door to begin on a week-long hunger strike. Confined in her small room, Claire starts to dissect her life to see how it all led to be. Claire’s story is just one of the millions of the immigrant family stories that show the impact of the sacrifices that are made into living in a new country. HOW MY PARENTS LOVED ME is a 5-minute audio documentary that depicts the complexities of being an Asian immigrant child and it offers a new perspective that many modern Australians don’t know about.
