Film synopsis: Dining in Ambedo is an abstract surreal short film that rejects traditional fashion notions. Reversing concepts of dress and utilising stylised objects to dress the set, the film captures the strange beauty in the unexpected and the uncanny, the disregarded and the unconventional. Object symbolism creates connection to the everyday while the displacement of objects, interactions and movements interrupts the connection, altering the experience. Dining in Ambedo utilises a soft-hued palette to generate a world that exists both within and beyond reality, a dream-like state that is familiar and foreign. The experimental nature is reinforced through movement and editing, producing a dream-like mise-en-scène, illogical narrative trajectory and fluidity. The ambient soundscape invites contemplation, perhaps even transcendental involvement for the spectator. Perspective alteration, illustrated in various scenes forces the viewer into passive or aggressive spectatorship – an opposing reaction to the subject positions on screen.
