Claudia Tilley

I use photography… as an expression of self. Taking photographs is a way to create something that reflects my emotions. My style is quite hyper feminine, I often include pink, purple lights, roses, cherries and female subjects. I have been inspired by the social contrast of femininity I experienced in my adolescence. I guess in this sense taking photographs is a way for me to express nostalgia for my teenage years. My latest project is the most extensive practise of this idea. I took screen shots from my text message archive, which dated back as late as year 8. This process of reflecting on the teenager I used to be was quite profound.  I was confronted by how different I felt from that self. This pushed me to further think of photography in the expanded form as a time capsule. Photography captures and preserves a moment in a reality that once was. Furthermore, I feel this function of photography is essential to constantly reflect on past versions of yourself.
