Reflection:
This final assignment turned out really good as same as i expected. When i saw Jame Benning project ” Ten skies ” and ” ” , i got straight away the idea to do with this project. If Jame Benning wants to show audience 10 skies different which are polluted in US or a difference movement of lakes, in my project i want to show audiences ” What does the sky tell us ?” by vision and audio as well. In this assignment, i have discovered that the cloud could tell how the weather is which depends on the color of them and how clear the sky is. Sometime we really do not know the weather through by our vision, it could be different to what i think. I went to film in different day and time to noticing how different the weather, the sky, the cloud in particular environment . First thing i checked weather forecast and when i came to the location i observed the sky and the environment around to get where should i film to noticing. After finishing , i looked all footage and it was surprised that the audiovisual helped me noticing very clear in this project. I could tell how the weather thought the audio. Normally, we start to noticing through a vision and its obviousness but the audiovisual help noticing and the nonfiction is more reasonable. Moreover, the experience of observing, waiting in any location that helps me create this assignment as a nonfiction film.
On this semester, I have been practicing to make a nonfiction film and it’s really interesting that I could understand what nonfiction and start noticing things in a life. In the very first week of the semester, I thought nonfiction that some documentaries are really heavy of theory and it could be a big media document. However, by each task of assignments, I engaged with prompts such as priming, lingering, wondering that guide to noticing better. The process of noticing could be less or more and it depends on the experience how many time we practice to noticing. It meant it takes day by day to noticing and it does not matter whether its unfamiliar or familiar place or not. In my opinion, everything in life has something special to create a story that will be different to a usual story if we engage with deeply thought by wondering, priming, lingering. Normally, we do not pay attention to things that happen to us every day and we can not describe them suddenly, we are struggling to noticing. Therefore the matter of noticing is how much we understand of the environment around things, maybe it could be nothing to understand and we could not noticing anything but the more we engage with things the more confident we will make a noticing. From the start, I could not trust myself that I can make a nonfiction and start noticing because I do not have confidence enough and I have not been engaged with these before. Nonetheless, I keep practicing to do it from each assignment, I used the prompt as my guide to a question, observe, watch that help to understand what is happening around us. I used to think this subject is an abstraction but now I think its a creation. It depends on the way how you tell audience your story so that a tool to notice a space or environment are wondering, recording, lingering, observing and adapting. Because of that, we can understand the space or environment deeply and the more detail we have the more we start noticing.
