I’ve put together an updated class schedule for you all to peruse – after week 7 it’s pretty open (deliberately), but there will be some more definite things that will come up as the weeks unfold.
Also I’ve assigned each group a WIP presentation week – keep in mind that this is just a presentation about where your group is at; you will all be at different stages so really it doesn’t matter when you do it. That said, if you can see any glaring issues with the day you’ve been allocated, please let me know.
Thanks Cody & Tyler for the week 5 update
Just passing on this opportunity from Lisa French (Deputy Dean, Media); A two week leadership program in San Francisco for women at RMIT University.

As you’ll all know, Melbourne WebFest Director Steinar Ellingsen will be joining us during this session to talk about pitching. Please arrive early as it is a great privilege to have his time and experience.
Before and after that, there is plenty more to do!
In this session we’ll get each production group to present a table read of their script, so have a discussion within your group about how you want to approach this before the class. Some of you were doing this already, so you should be ready to go.
After that, we’ll have a quick intro to lighting. To prepare, take a look at this Lighting Prezi created be Andrea Rassell (for the Masters Program). We won’t be using C-Stands, but all of the basic principals will apply for us.
Script development today. First we’ll have a quick catch up, then the Writers will join us to get underway.
Firstly, Evan’s lecture. Then, get into our production groups and work through the following:
A couple of things:
- We have a guest coming to talk to us this afternoon so please give them the respect of being on time 🙂
- Something’s come up and I have to take off just after the lecture, so Jeremy will be overseeing the second hour of group work, during which you’ll be encouraged to schedule a timeline for script deliveries.
- On Wednesday, we have our script development session, so each group (as discussed) should bring MINIMUM one script to the table.
- Readings: on the ‘Readings’ tab, under ‘Creative Writing’, I’ve posted a very short reading called ‘Guidelines for Script Development’. The media students have this text too, so make sure you’re very familiar with it (some of you may have read it as part of a previous studio with me). Also, it will probably be helpful to refresh your reading of ‘Web Series and Script Development’, particularly pages 5-9 that discuss script development in the traditional and web sense.
Great that production is nearly underway! See you all this afternoon 🙂
Just a reminder that this coming Monday we have Evan Munro-Smith, Director of the excellent ABC iView series ‘Sammy J’s Playground Politics’, coming in to give a guest lecture.
Evan will cover a lot of topics that are directly relevant to you and your group right now, so please be sure to arrive on time (in fact, 5 minutes early) to class so that we can make the most of the session. This is a fantastic opportunity to get insight from someone who is established in the industry, and ask any questions to help with your own projects in this studio.
Looking forward to seeing you all on Monday, ready for 2:30PM.
With groups formed and concept development underway, we need to turn our attention to getting Ready to Shoot (part of PB4) and the Pitch & Proposal content (PB3). From next week onward, you’ll need to get your casting underway.
