  1. This is a short interview conducted with Thelma Schoonmaker, Martin Scorsese’s editing partner on every one of his film since 1980’s Raging Bull. Strauss discusses how being a woman effects Schoonmaker’s editing style and ability, and how this attracted Scorsese to work with her – being about to “bring humanity to his films”. Schoonmaker suggests that a good editor has a “sensitivity to actors” that she believes is “particularly feminine”.
While purely anecdotal, this was the only piece that made a clear link between a supposed “feminine” ability and the craft of editing. Coming from one of Hollywood’s greats, Schoonmaker’s reading of this link would appear to have some merit, but only further correlations could confirm it.
