Dupaix, Air. “Film110 / Continuity Editing”. Film110.pbworks.com. N.p., 2016. Web. 18 Mar. 2016.

This wiki defines the key terms associated with continuity editing, specifically;

Eyeline match, match-on-action, establishing shot, POV shot, axis of action and parallel editing.

What’s more, the wiki gives visual evidence of all these systems and concepts being used properly. The end of the wiki touches on diegetic sound, which the author writes is “used to assist continuity editing”.

The videos that the wiki shares all give visual evidence of the concepts that are being explained. The analysis’ of the concepts themselves are extremely detailed, and the videos merely add more supporting evidence. What’s particularly interesting is the analysis on diegetic sound, and it’s importance in sequences. The sound is able to connect shots with one another, and by using diegetic sound, audiences are able to make assumptions about shots being continuous if the same diegetic sounds are being played in between cuts.

This passage, whilst reinforcing already known concepts, provides further visual evidence to demonstrate how these techniques work to maintain continuity. Perhaps the most important part of this passage is the paragraph and example of diegetic sound. I have failed to find pieces that talk about sound and it’s importance in continuity editing, thus making this piece of literature all the more important.
