Project Brief 4: Final Project (60%)

Part I: Media Project (40%)

In Project Teams, students will create a media object that relates a narrative. This narrative must be based on ONE of the following:

  1. a pre-existing, non-copyrighted short story;
  2. a current or ongoing news story;
  3. a personal or family story of one group member, OR stories from one or more group members linked by a common theme.

Teams must work together to tell a story across a minimum of two (2) platforms (with a maximum of five/5). These platforms could be contained within a single ‘artefact’, e.g. letters, photographs, and documents in a box/boardgame, or the platforms could be spread across multiple digital and non-digital media, e.g. a podcast, mobile app, and deck of game cards.

In planning, developing, and producing your project, groups will be expected to draw on key theories and concepts raised in class in order to justify their choice of media, and to develop and critically analyse the connections between the media.

Digital-only projects must be presented online through a website, blog, or smart app. Non-digital artefacts will be examined by studio leader/s by appointment in Week 13. All projects must include an OH&S Risk Assessment as part of their documentation.

All materials must be available online, with a link submitted to the Blackboard Assessment Dropbox where necessary, by 5pm Friday 5 June. Examination of any non-digital artefacts to be scheduled with studio leader on Friday 5 June.

Part II: Electronic Portfolio (20%)

Throughout semester, students will maintain a blog housing formal and informal elements, including planning and research, Project Brief responses (e.g. case study and research report), responses to readings, screenings, and individual exploration, and reflective notes on the process of group work and project development. Informal posts may comprise multiple media: text, image, video, and so on. It is expected that each student will post at least one entry of at least 200 words per week, not including formal Project Brief responses. The portfolio will serve as an individual record of the creative and production process, as well as engagement with the key questions and concepts of the studio.
