Case study analysis

Create a shared google-doc and put your group names and student nos at the top. The link from this google-doc will be submitted by email by 12 midday on Sunday. This Project 1 is not assessed so mainly use to understand the video work you have chosen and select an affordance.

The case study will consider the following in (1000-1200 words):

• What is the context of the work? (i.e. fiction, nonfiction, documentary, music video, experimental, self-reflexive, performance…)
• What is the subject?
• What type of material is used? (i.e. archive, live action, interview…)
• What is the point–of–view? (i.e. the position of the camera, framing, focus, sharpness, light, exposure, colour, motion…) How are these techniques used to communicate a particular perspective or point–of–view?
• What type of sound is used? (i.e. music, atmospheric, voice-over, narration…)
• How is the sound used in regards to the effect created for the viewer?
• What makes this work distinct in regards to it being made with a mobile phone? (i.e. everyday, vernacular, informal, non-professional, self-reflexive, personal, private, serendipitous, immediacy, mobility, locative, photographic…)
• How has the mobile phone been used to make the work? (i.e. technique, technologies…)
• How important is post-production in the realisation of the work? (i.e. the use of desktop computers and applications…)
